In a heated moment during the second Democratic debate on Thursday, Kamala Harris took aim at rival candidate Joe Biden on race and civil rights.

Harris took Biden to task, saying he worked with segregationist senators to oppose school busing programs meant to integrate schools.

"It was actually very hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States Senators who built their reputations and careers on the segregation of race in this country," Harris said.

"It was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing. And you know, there was a little girl in California, who was a part of the second class to integrate her public school, and she was bused to school everyday. And that was little girl was me.

"So I will tell you that, on this subject, it cannot be an intellectual debate among Democrats. We have to take it seriously."

Biden defended himself by calling it a mischaracterization of his position, and claiming he never opposed busing.

Following the exchange, Harris' Twitter account posted a photo of herself as a young girl.

Meanwhile, Google searches for "busing" increased by more than 3000 percent, according to Google Trends.

The internet also had its say on the moment.
