Pets are a part of our families, and we will go to the end of the earth and beyond to make them feel that way.
So, when Luna the cat from Charlotte, North Carolina, turned 15 (!!), she got the party she always dreamed of: an extravagant, pink quinceañera.
A quinceañera is a celebration of a girl's 15th birthday with cultural roots in Latin America, but celebrated throughout the Americas. The coming of age is celebrated with a huge party, so there's no way Luna could miss out on that!

As for the idea to throw her feline a quinceañera, well, it was a joke that her mom ran with.
"Since Luna is such a princess, I often joked about throwing Luna a lavish quinceañera party, but never thought it would actually happen," Olavarria said. "My mom LOVES throwing parties, and loves our pets even more, so when she heard the idea she started planning."
The family sent out invitations to all of their closest family members and friends a week in advance, and 12 of them showed up to celebrate Luna's long kitty life.
"Everyone showed up and were all so excited. It felt like a real birthday party," Olavarria said of the crowd. "One my friends even surprised Luna with a bouquet of flowers."
In order to prepare for the soirée, Olavarria's mom did some hunting on Amazon for the perfect pretty princess dress for Luna to wear on her special day. She ordered a tres leches cake from their favorite bakery, and decorated with tons of balloons, table cloths, and streamers. The dress though, was extra important - Luna just had to look like a quinceañera star on her big day.
"My mom wanted to get Luna a traditional quinceañera dress and found the perfect one on Amazon," Olavarria explained. "I'm pretty sure she got the crown at Walmart in the Christmas ornaments section."
Dressed to the nines in an outfit fit for a queen, Luna and her pals partied the night away. But it wasn't gifts or a crown Luna was after; her wish was for something a bit more...fishy.
"Luna was such a good sport during the whole thing. I think she was happy to be surrounded by her family," Olavarria said. "We are rarely all together. I also think she knew there was a can of tuna in her future..."
To see how Luna's spending her big fifteenth year, Olavarria said you can keep up with her Facebook and Instagram.
Happy birthday, Princess Luna! You are a star!
