I think many women will agree with me when I say that makeup removal is a chore. However, it's the one skincare step that's not to be left out if you want to ensure you don't look 20 years older than you really are.
I've religiously subscribed to the double cleanse method where I first remove my makeup with an oil-based cleansing wipe, before washing my face with a cream cleanser. It's usually the only way to remove all traces of makeup, including the toughest of waterproof formulas.
SEE ALSO:Why you should consider adding facial oils to your skincare regimeThe Makeup Eraser cloth has been touted as a skincare must-have since it launched in 2013. What supposedly makes this product so unique is that all you need to completely remove your makeup -- without stripping your skin dry -- is warm water and the cloth.
Intrigued by the hype, I decided to test the Makeup Eraser up against a heavy-duty cleansing wipe and here's how they fared.

Generally with this wipe, I tend to apply a bit more strength to ensure that any stubborn makeup is dissolved.
It took 1 minute 17 seconds to remove the makeup the right half of my face. At one glance, it did the job but I actually had to go over my eyes with the Makeup Eraser for all traces of mascara to be properly removed.
My skin felt really tight and uncomfortable after using this cleansing wipe.

It feels really soft on my skin, and I like that I needed only gentle strokes as compared to the makeup wipe to get the makeup off. It also took the same amount of time as the cleansing wipe to remove the makeup on the left side of my face.
My skin felt clean, but not stripped of its natural oils after, which is great. However, I was a bit put off by all the makeup marks left on the cloth and the idea of using it on my face again. I tried running the cloth under water but the stains wouldn't budge.
The manufacturers claim you're supposed to be able to throw the cloth into the washing machine, and that it'll be good through 100 washes. The machine failed to remove the stains, so you'll have to contend with a visibly stained cloth, but at 100 uses, it's quite a steal considering this product only costs $19.97.

I'm definitely not opposed to swapping my cleanser and makeup wipes out for the Makeup Eraser, because it's really easy to use and gentle on the skin.
However, I'm not exactly thrilled by the idea of travelling with this product. Where am I going to find a washing machine everyday to get the cloth clean and ready to use again?
The Makeup Eraser is set to simplify your cleansing routine, and it's pretty value for money. But the maintenance of the cloth is a downer for me.
Elexsis McCarthy, one of Makeup Eraser's founders, have responded to Mashable's review.
The Makeup Eraser is available at Sephora or online at www.makeuperaser.com.
