An Australian guy has reportedly been detained in the US, after delays at the Canadian border meant he over-stayed his U.S. visa by 90 minutes.
Baxter Reid from Canberra has been living in the U.S. alongside his American girlfriend Heather Kancso. He was on a five-year visa, which stipulated he had to leave the country every six months.
For that reason, the pair drove north to Canada's border for a trip, but faced tough questioning by Canadian authorities at the border. After waiting four hours, they were sent back to the U.S. border patrol, where he was arrested because his visa had just expired. Oi!

"Because they had kept him, his visa had expired by 90 minutes," he said. "They handcuffed him and took him away and I think it started to sink in then what was going on."
Kansco has since created a GoFundMe page to help pay for her boyfriend's legal fees, raising raised A$6,000 (US$4,523) of its A$8,000 (US$6,031) target at the time of writing.
"Both his family and mine are trying to find nickel and dimes to help us out, but at this stage the estimated costs are unrealistic. This is going to make a criminal out of an innocent man," the page reads.
"Without this legal support, he will be sent back to Australia not only actually in cuffs, but as a criminal not being allowed to re-enter the U.S."
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it's assisting an Australian man in the U.S., but cannot share further details due to privacy obligations.
