HTC is finally getting with the times.
The company's last flagship, the HTC U11, was a great device, but compared to the tall-screened, small-bezeled phones of today, it looks archaic. Now, the company is launching the new HTC U11+, a phone with similar specs, but with some major changes on the outside.
SEE ALSO:Hey, smartphone makers: I still want a headphone jackThe HTC U11+ has a 6-inch, 2,880x1,440 LCD screen with significantly smaller bezels on top and bottom than its predecessor. There are no special features that make it immediately recognizable, like the iPhone X's notch or the Note 8's curvy edges, but it does look a lot more modern than the U11.
Despite the screen size change, thanks to smaller bezels the HTC U11+ is roughly the same size as its predecessor, so potential buyers shouldn't fear their hands being too small for the new device.
The HTC U11+ is only available in a very glossy black, and the rear side of the device is wonderfully simple: Rear camera on top, fingerprint sensor right below, and a not-too-flashy logo a little lower. Note that the U11 had the fingerprint sensor on the front side, beneath the screen; for some users, this is a pretty big change.
On the inside, the U11+ is very similar to the U11. It has a Snapdragon 835 CPU, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 12-megapixel rear camera. The phone is resistant to dust and water up to IP67 specs.
There are some notable changes, though, for better or for worse. The selfie camera on the U11+ is a solid 8 megapixels, while the U11 had a sharper 16-megapixel front-facing camera. The battery, however, has received a significant upgrade on the U11+: from 3,000 mAh to 3,930 mAh.
The "squeezable" edges of the phone are still there. And there's still quite a bit of focus on sound quality: The HTC U11+ has stereo speakers and comes with USonic noise-cancelling earbuds.
HTC U11+ will be available for pre-order on Nov. 20 in the UK and will cost £699 ($927). There's no specific launch date for other markets yet.
