As the prophets foretold, Apple has put to death the headphone jack. 。

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, launched at an event in California Wednesday, are the first iPhones without that familiar 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead Apple fanboys and girls will need to use Lightning-based headphones (called AirPods) that will come in the box with the new smartphone, or a Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone jack dongle to convert their old pair.。

So how much will you pay for the privilege of losing that dongle down a drain on your first day out with the iPhone 7?

In Australia, orders will begin Friday, Sept. 9 and the two smartphones be available from Friday, Sept. 16, so break out your sleeping bag.。

Let's not forget Apple's new wireless headphones. Including a charging case, they'll set you back A$229 in Apple stores or online from late October. If you lose your new EarPods or that dongle, they'll cost A$45 and A$12 respectively, to replace.
