The stream of police shootings replayed on social media can take a toll on one's mental health. With the ongoing coverage of the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile this week, we have seen the shootings play out on screens repeatedly.

#CarefreeBlackKids2k16 has risen on Twitter in the midst of these tragedies to combat the steady stream of distressful news.

The hashtag was started by Heben Nigatu, co-host for BuzzFeed's Another Roundpodcast and writer for The Daily Showwith Stephen Colbert. The short clips of gleeful black children have provided a respite for many Twitter users, who have expressed gratitude for a bit of good in their timelines.

Nigatu's first post, a Vine of kids singing for their postman, has garnered over 15,000 favorites. Since that post, thousands have shared videos and images on Twitter of black youth dancing, singing, smiling and full of unencumbered joy.
